Black Women in Popular Culture Class at PSU

This summer I will be teaching my first solo class at Portland State University! It is called Black Women in Popular Culture, and the information is below. Please pass the word on to any folks you know taking summer classes at PSU, they need to sign up no later than July 7, 2008. Course Description: An examination of the treatment, perception and characterization of black women in mainstream popular culture, including film, television, magazines and books. Will also explore examples of alternative contemporary images created by black women. The impact of these images on black women, their issues and lives will be analyzed.
