Picked up a name that fell out the mouths
Of many comrades, Walidah
Doing the super sista thing
Social activist, grass roots organizer, woman
On call everywhere it seems, for the cause of
The oppressed, a sister soul jah fo’ real
Heard she a griot too, spoken word artist
But never got an opportunity to check out her art
One day a brotha, a Blue Brotha
Handed me the chaplet called
“The Back Called Bridge”
Three days later with easy nonchalance
I turned the first page and was blown away
You spoke to me – Sista Walidah
Made love to my mind over and over again
Took me to a place I’ve never been
The state of perpetual ecstasy
Page after page I was held hostage
At the point of climax
On the verge of mental orgasm
This is too much exhilaration
For my mind to bear
Eruption after eruption of synaptic ends
Neurons firing with excitement
Like the fourth of July
I was impregnated with cosmic energy
My mind expanded to fill the universe
Birthing galaxies along the way
This union of spirits made me feel God
So I said BE!
Sista Walidah
